New Music: Wil

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

I saw Feist last night in San Francisco. She gave a great, energetic performance complete with an accompanying shadow art show that was so cheesy it was good. I really appreciate her sense of humor along with her powerful voice and guitar.

This blog post isn’t about Feist though, it is about the guy who opened for her, Wil. I was really taken by his stage presence and how immersed he was in his performance. Watch him abuse his guitar here:

I purchased his CD, by December, at the show and chatted with him for a brief moment in the lobby. The only thing that tends to disappoint me in discovering someone live versus on the radio is that the energy isn’t captured. I came home and visited his website and listened to a few tracks and for me, his recorded work was over produced. Most of the tracks were too polished.

Sadly there isn’t much bootleg on YouTube for Wil, but I did find another version of the above video here. Unfortunately it cuts off just after he really gets jamming. Pay attention to this guy because I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from him in the near future.

UPDATE Feb 17, 2010:
I was asked by Wil to remove this video from YouTube. Out of respect for the artist, I complied. Please find Wil at http://ibreakstrings.com/

Lost Angeles

That being said, I can’t help but wonder about this place. So much to say yet my mouth hangs slack and nothing comes out. I will however share this story:
